Promoter Frank Warren suffered a heart attack after his fighter, Tyson Fury, lost to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk by a 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday night in their rematch in Riyadh.
Fury’s hasty exit
Fury ran out of the ring afterwards, not wanting to face the music and put his feet to the fire to be grilled by the media. What does that tell you? If he thought he was winning, he would have held on and stood on his hind legs and whined about it.
The judges got it right and scored it for Usyk, 116-112, 116-112 and 116-112. I had it 10-2 in Usyk’s favor. Even in the close rounds, Fury did nothing but throw backhands and weak jabs.
Warren was “flabbergasted” by the scores from two of the judges, who saw Usyk (23-0, 12 KOs) sweep every round from the six onward against former WBC heavyweight champion Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs). The second judge had Fury win just one round out of the last six.
I watched the fight and I had Usyk sweeping every round from round five. Scoring seemed easy as Fury’s reflexes seemed shot and he did next to nothing on offense. He looked afraid to throw punches for fear of being countered by Usyk’s sniper-like left hand.
The once lanky Fury, who defeated Wladimir Klitschko in his prime in 2015, was gone tonight. In its place was a flabby, 40-something-looking heavyweight who was unable to pull the trigger on his punches.
The gypsy king fought exactly as the then 39-year-old Wladimir fought him nine years ago. Wlad couldn’t pull the trigger that night in Dusseldorf, Germany and Fury was the same tonight. He was mentally locked up,
Amazed
‘I am amazed. They gave him [Fury] four rounds out of twelve rounds, which is impossible,” promoter Frank Warren told TNT Sports Boxing, complaining about his fighter, Tyson Fury, losing on the scorecards to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch in Riyadh.
“I know I’m biased, but one judge didn’t give him a round from round six onwards. How can that be? It’s impossible. Same with the other judge here. He gave him one round out of the last six .Same here with this guy. It’s crazy.
“I am calm, I am collected. I don’t scream and shout. It’s nonsense. All along the front row there. Oscar De La Hoya and I had him [Fury] wins by three or four rounds. It’s Oscar, and he’s neutral. He only won one round on two of the judges’ scorecards from round six onwards. I mean, what fight did they watch?” Warren said, blasting the judges for not giving his fighter, Fury, the win.
