Kieran Culkin has emerged as the culprit who got Mark Ruffalo high during a performance at The moment when more than two decades ago.

“I was 17 and stupid,” Culkin, 42, jokingly admitted in an interview with The Guardian published on Saturday 28 December.

Culkin and Ruffalo were in the 2000 production of James Lapine game. The show was Culkin’s Broadway debut. The Succession alum admitted he saw a bag of propled backstage and ultimately decided to switch one out.

Weeks later after making the switch, Culkin smelled the real joint and “saw” Ruffalo take a hit before passing it on to another cast member. Culkin shared that he decided to get clean during the show’s hiatus.

Just like Mac! Kieran Culkin has had a front-row seat to his older brother Macaulay Culkin’s acting career long before following in his on-screen footsteps. “It was pretty crazy. And I think also what people sometimes don’t remember is that he was a kid. He didn’t really choose that,” the Succession star recalled to NPR in […]

“I’m like, ‘I thought it was a good prank.’ I’m stupid. Oh my God, I’m so sorry,” he recalled. “But actually they loved it. Mark says: ‘I haven’t smoked pot in 10 years; the second half will be so much fun.’ There was another actor who had never smoked pot in his life. She says, ‘Is this what it’s like to be tall? This is lovely.’ And so Phyllis Newman comes in and goes, ‘I haven’t smoked pot since the 1960s. Thanks, baby.’”

While Culkin’s co-stars did not see the damage in the stunt, the play’s director did not share a similar sentiment.

“Then the stagehand comes stomping in and says, ‘I don’t care who it is or what happened, but Kieran, give me the joint,'” he reflected. “I shamefully handed her the roach and she said, ‘Destroy your life on your own time’.”

After the incident, Culkin learned his lesson and never pulled such a stunt again.

Kieran Culkin’s unconventional way of preparing for dialogue in his roles managed to blow away his A Real Pain costar Jesse Eisenberg. “Kieran wouldn’t learn the lines until the morning we shot — and you saw the movie — you saw that he has, like, monologue after monologue,” Eisenberg, 41, said during a Thursday in December […]

“I know, I know. But I was young, he told the newspaper. “I’m 42 now. I know better. I’m not going to try to get anyone up on stage.”

Ruffalo previously shared the smoking incident during a 2012 performance The Graham Norton Show. The Marvel star never revealed the identity of who was behind the prank.

“There was a piece I did where I had to smoke a joint in the first scene,” he shared. “And of course there was a very cheeky young actor I was in the play with who on opening night slipped a real joint onto the prop table with all the critics.”

Kieran Culkin doesn’t understand certain labels used by other actors – and he wasn’t afraid to name former Succession costar Jeremy Strong as a prime example. “I object to actors calling themselves ‘storytellers,'” Culkin, 42, said during his Variety “Actors on Actors” conversation with Colman Domingo on Wednesday, Dec. 17. “I don’t really like […]

Ruffalo said that while he was on stage, he and his co-star smoked “a giant butt on stage” and didn’t realize it until he noticed everyone laughing at his antics.

“I’m like, ‘Man, I’m in it tonight.’ I feel it. I’m on fire. I feel it,’” he reflected before beginning to question his surroundings. “Why is that guy standing backstage laughing at me?” And the boy who put the joint on the support table, it says, [laughing]. And I just said, ‘Oh s—’.”

Despite the mishap, Ruffalo had no hard feelings as he ultimately received “the best reviews” of his career.
