2020 Cuban Andy Cruz hopes Keyshawn succeeds in his title challenge against WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14. Cruz says he will take the WBO belt from Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KO) if he wins it. Berinchyk vs. Keyshawn will be featured on ESPN and ESPN+. The event starts at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT.
Andy refers to Davis as “my son” due to his many victories over him. However, he still wants him to defeat Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) next month. He says he wants to watch the match.
A story of dominance
It would be Cruz’s fifth win over Keyshawn. His record is perfect 4-0, and he has repeatedly called the top-ranked Davis since turning pro, but to no avail. Keyshawn doesn’t want to lose again so he makes excuses.
Even if Davis defeats Berinchyk, he will not defend the WBO title against Cruz. That is the last person he would consider fighting because he knows what will happen if they fight.
It would be like Keyshawn giving away the WBO belt. He has already said what he hopes to do if he gets his hands on the belt. Davis says he will use it to try to lure WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis into a unification fight. It’s a dream that has no chance of happening because Tank focuses on fighting popular fighters.
Keyshawn’s excuses for not fighting Andy Cruz
- “He’s not ready yet. He has no fan base. His whole fan base is built around me.”
- “That man isn’t trying to fight me. I’m knocking him out. He’s just not ready.”
- “We already sent them a contract. I already came live with Eddie Hearn and said I should start the fight. I don’t know what else you want me to do [to make the Andy Cruz fight].
I don’t know how Keyshawn could say with a straight face that Cruz isn’t “ready” to fight him when he beat him four times in the amateurs and has looked better than him in the pros. Davis has looked bad in his matches against Nahir Albright and Miguel Madueno. Those are the only two semi-good fighters Keyshawn has fought since turning pro. The rest of them were scrubs.
“My Son”
“I believe my son has improved a lot. I hope he wins the belt to see if I can take it away from him for the 5th time,” Andy Cruz told YSM Sports Media, reacting to Keyshawn David challenged WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14.
“Of course I want to see that fight. What kind of father doesn’t want to see their son?” Cruz said when asked if he wants to watch the Keyshawn vs. Berinchyk fight.
